Public Education

Educating the public has been and will continue to be another important service that we provide.  Many times the training and knowledge that your local shellfish officer has gained will ease situations that arise.  From the day to day dealing with both recreational and commercial harvesters, to simple questions by homeowners and school children in search of answers to homework assignments, the Massachusetts Shellfish Officers Association and its local representatives are a reliable and easy source of information.

Our officers attend schools and public functions to provide information as requested.  The MSOA has educational pamphlets such as "Guide to Shellfish in Massachusetts" and is associated with several others that are available upon request.

The MSOA provides a financial assistance program established for the fifty-nine coastal communities and towns of the Commonwealth and accepts applications from students of any of the forty-nine high schools from our communities.
